What this app handles
Clonely builds a clone of how somebody you know texts, from a chat you import. This policy explains what stays on your device and what leaves it.
On the device only
Reading text out of screenshots and screen recordings happens entirely on your device, using Apple’s Vision framework, with no network access. The messages that were read, the images you attached, your settings and your purchase state are stored on the device only. The images themselves never leave it.
What is sent to the AI
When you talk to a clone, or use the reply helper, text is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API: a sample of the other person’s own messages, the recent part of the conversation, the names you use for each other, your relationship and shared memory as set during onboarding, the situation you set for the conversation, and the message you just typed. The full imported chat is never sent.
What the reply helper additionally sends
That feature writes in your voice, so it also sends messages you yourself have sent, as a sample of how you write, along with the text read out of any screenshots you attached. The images themselves are not sent.
What is never sent
Whatever you wrote in “the thing you never said” during onboarding is in none of the prompts. It is only stored on your device. Neither is the picture you set as the clone’s face.
Sent to the United States
Anthropic PBC is a US company, and the text above is processed in the United States. This is a transfer of personal data outside Japan, so it is stated here explicitly: the United States has not been designated as a country whose personal-data protections are equivalent to Japan’s. Using the app is taken as agreement to this handling.
Not used for training
Anthropic does not use inputs or outputs sent through the API to train its models (per Anthropic’s policy). We do not reuse what is sent for advertising or profiling.
Somebody else’s messages
An imported chat contains another person’s words. What is sent to the AI is limited to generating a reply. We do not provide it to third parties except as required by law.
We count where people drop out
How far through setup you got, which method you used to import a chat, how many messages and days it covered, and how many exchanges a conversation ran to — these counts are recorded with Google Firebase Analytics. They exist to find the parts of the app that do not work and fix them, not to advertise to you.
Counts, and nothing else
No message text, no names, no shared memory, nothing you typed. What is sent is numbers, plus one word naming the import method (screen recording, screenshots, LINE, WhatsApp).
Where the analytics go
Firebase Analytics is a Google LLC service and the data is processed in the United States. Devices are told apart using Apple’s identifierForVendor, an identifier scoped to this app alone. The advertising identifier (IDFA) is not used and there is no advertising tracking. You can also stop sharing analytics in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
What is not collected
No contacts, no location, no advertising identifier (IDFA), and no account.
Notifications
Notifications are scheduled and delivered on the device. Their text is a message that has already been generated; nothing is sent anywhere to deliver one.
Purchases
Subscriptions and exchange packs are handled by App Store in-app purchase. Apple handles payment; we never receive your card details.
Deleting it
The data is on your device, so deleting the app removes it. To remove only the imported chat, use 「学習した会話をリセット」 on the clone screen, or delete the clone.
Minors
We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors without parental consent.
Changes and contact
This policy may be revised as the law or the app changes; material changes are announced in the app. For questions, use the contact on the App Store product page.
